Petrifilm™ Enterobacteriaceae Count Plates (EB)

Petrifilm™ Enterobacteriaceae Count Plates (EB) are a standardized culture system for the quantitative analysis of Enterobacteriaceae—a key indicator group for hygiene status and process control in food production. The system replaces traditional VRBG agar plates and enables a more efficient and reproducible analysis.

The plate contains a dehydrated culture medium based on modified Violet Red Bile Glucose (VRBG), along with a gelling agent and an indicator that enables selective growth and clear identification of colonies. Enterobacteriaceae form characteristic red colonies, often accompanied by gas bubbles and/or yellow zones resulting from acid production.

The method is optimized for routine analysis in the food, beverage, and water industries, where rapid and reliable quantification of hygiene indicators is required. Results are typically obtained after approximately 24 hours of incubation at 34–37 °C.
