Bionova® BT224 – 20-minute biological indicator for steam sterilization

Bionova® BT224 is a self-contained biological indicator developed for monitoring steam sterilization. It contains spores of Geobacillus stearothermophilus (10⁶), which is the standard organism for this process. Results are obtained via fluorescence after only 20 minutes, enabling much faster release of products compared to traditional biological indicators.

The system is based on an enzymatic fluorescence reaction in which the signal indicates the presence of surviving microorganisms and, consequently, sterilization failure. A visual color change can be used as secondary confirmation after a longer incubation period, but is not routinely used. The product is intended for regular process control and validation in the healthcare, dental, and pharmaceutical industries.
