Bionova® BT220 – 3-hour biological indicator for steam sterilization

Bionova® BT220 is a self-contained biological indicator developed for monitoring steam sterilization processes. It contains spores of Geobacillus stearothermophilus and provides a rapid result via fluorescence after 3 hours of incubation, enabling the efficient and safe release of sterilized items.

The indicator is used for routine monitoring, validation, and process control in autoclaves in healthcare, dental, and pharmaceutical manufacturing. Its integrated design, featuring a culture medium in a vial, provides a robust and reproducible method that requires no external handling.

A fluorescent signal indicates surviving spores (process failure), while the absence of a signal confirms effective sterilization. A visual color change can be used as supplementary verification during longer incubation periods.
