Description

The TST Control™ Helix Process Challenge Device is used to verify steam penetration in steam sterilizers in accordance with ISO . The device has been developed and validated for use in Type B autoclaves and is used as a standardized test to ensure effective air removal and steam penetration during the sterilization process.

The test is based on a helical design that simulates hollow instruments (hollow load), creating one of the most demanding sterilization conditions. To achieve a passing result, steam must penetrate the entire system and reach the chemical indicator located at the end of the lumen.

The unit is operated in an otherwise empty chamber with a cycle for wrapped instruments at 134 °C for up to 3.5 minutes. After the cycle is complete, the indicator is read visually. A uniform color change indicates proper steam penetration, while deviations suggest residual air or insufficient process performance.

This product is intended for daily routine monitoring and is used as a supplement to other sterilization controls. The device comes with single-use chemical indicators, which should be replaced after a maximum of 250 uses to ensure reliable results.

Incorrect use, such as combining the indicator with indicators other than those intended, may produce misleading results and should be avoided.

Features

  • Simulates hollow loads for a realistic process challenge
  • Verifies steam penetration and air removal in accordance with ISO
  • Standard test method for Type B autoclaves
  • Clear visual indication via a chemical indicator
  • Comes with single-use indicators for reliable result assessment
  • Specified service life of up to 250 uses
  • Suitable for routine daily monitoring of sterilization processes

TST Control Helix PCD is used to verify autoclave performance and is run in an empty chamber as a standardized steam penetration test. TST Load Check is placed in an actual load and is used to verify that sterilization conditions have been achieved where they are most critical. Helix tests the equipment—Load Check tests the result.
