Petrifilm™ E. coli/Coliform Count Plates (EC)

Petrifilm™ E. coli/Coliform Count Plates are a ready-to-use microbiological culture system for the simultaneous quantification of E. coli and total coliform bacteria. The test is based on a dehydrated culture medium containing selective nutrients, indicators, and gelling agents that are activated upon addition of the sample.

The system allows for clear differentiation between microorganisms through color reactions and gas production. E. coli forms blue to blue-green colonies (with or without gas), while other coliform bacteria form red colonies with gas. A built-in grid facilitates colony counting and quantification.

This method replaces traditional agar plates and is widely used in food and water analysis for hygiene control and quality monitoring. Results are typically available within 24–48 hours, depending on the analytical parameters.
