Description

Neogen® Buffered Peptone Water Broth (BPW) is a classic non-selective pre-enrichment medium for microbiological sample preparation in the food industry, quality control, and laboratory settings. The medium is used to recover stressed or sublethally damaged bacteria prior to further analysis using selective culture media, PCR LAMP.

The buffered medium stabilizes the pH during incubation and improves the recovery of bacteria that have been exposed to heat, desiccation, preservatives, or other process-related stresses. Buffered Peptone Water is used specifically in Salmonella but is also used in the analysis of Enterobacteriaceae, Cronobacter, and STEC according to established ISO.

The product is supplied as a dehydrated culture medium and must be reconstituted with sterile water before use. The powder-based format offers flexibility for laboratories that wish to prepare the desired volume of medium themselves.
