Dipslide – Total Count, Pseudomonas aeruginosa

Dipslide is a combined microbiological test for screening for total bacterial count and Pseudomonas aeruginosa in food production, healthcare settings, and other hygiene-critical operations. The test is used to assess both general hygiene status and the presence of Pseudomonas in environments where water and moisture play a central role.

The dip slide is coated with two culture media: Tryptone Soya Agar for total bacterial count and Pseudomonas Selective Agar for the selective detection of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This enables simultaneous analysis of total microbial load and targeted detection in a single test. After incubation, visible colony growth develops on each side, enabling semi-quantitative assessment via a reference chart.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is particularly important to monitor in swimming pools and other humid environments where water and biofilm may be present. The bacterium thrives in warm and humid conditions and is therefore used as an indicator organism in hygiene inspections of, for example, pools, showers, and wet areas. The presence of Pseudomonas may indicate deficiencies in cleaning or disinfection, particularly in systems where microorganisms can establish themselves on surfaces or in water circuits.

This method is used for screening and verifying cleaning and disinfection, where regular sampling helps ensure effective hygiene practices and reduces the risk of microbial contamination in moisture-prone environments.
