Dipslide – Total count (water)

Dipslide is a culture-based test for total bacterial count in water and low-nutrient systems. The test is used in industrial processes and dental water lines to monitor microbial contamination in circulating fluids and systems where biofilm can form.

The slide is coated with R2A agar containing TTC indicator on both sides, which is designed for bacteria in aquatic environments and supports the growth of slow-growing microorganisms. After incubation, visible colony growth develops, which can be assessed semi-quantitatively using a reference chart.

This method is used for ongoing monitoring of water quality in, for example, cooling systems, cutting fluids, process water, and dental unit water lines. It provides a practical indication of microbial load and is used to verify the cleaning, disinfection, and maintenance of systems where biofilm can affect function and hygiene.
